A NEW BEGINNING
After a long period of deep searching, prayer, and consultation, Promise International Fellowship appoints its new pastor, David Hong. We're thrilled to transition Pastor David and his family into our church. We strive to communicate with the church community both clearly and transparently during this transition period. Below, you'll find answers to some of our most commonly asked questions.
Q: WHEN WILL PASTOR DAVID BEGIN WITH PIF?
Pastor David's leadership of PIF takes effect Sunday, January 1, 2017.
Q: WHERE DOES PASTOR DAVID FIT IN?
Pastor David will report directly to Rev. Nam-Soo Kim, the lead pastor of Promise Ministries. At this time, the Rev. Ben Hur will step in as representative to Rev. Kim, with Pastor Pete Richardson moving into the role of advisor and mentor to the new pastor.
Q: HOW DID PROMISE MINISTRIES COME TO SELECT PASTOR DAVID?
Pastor David entered the pastoral search process through a recommendation from a member of the Promise Ministries elder board. After a series of thorough interviews with Rev. Kim, Rev. Hur, and Pastor Pete respectively, Pastor David then met with the PIF Operating Committee, the PIF deacon board, and various other ministry leaders. He was then offered an opportunity to preach as a guest speaker for our Sunday worship service. Pastor Pete was in constant communication with Promise Ministries leadership, hearing feedback from PIF ministry team members and receiving updates on the pastoral search process.
Q: WHAT EXPERIENCE DOES PASTOR DAVID BRING TO OUR CHURCH?
Pastor David's life was radically changed for Christ in 2010 and he began a journey of ministry, serving God in capacities that have made an impact in the lives of people in this generation, both as a Youth pastor and later as pastor for English-speaking ministry. His vision and leadership have resulted in both exponential church growth as well as church-planting success. He is deeply devoted to bringing the lost to Jesus Christ, reaching the marginalized locally and globally, and influencing this generation to seek repentance through faith and intercession. Pastor David attended Binghamton University and later, Nyack College. He currently lives in College Point, Queens with his wife, Joan, and their son, Ezra.
Q: ARE THERE ANY UPCOMING EVENTS WHERE I CAN GET TO KNOW PASTOR DAVID?
At this time, nothing specific has been planned out. We are working on possible opportunities for PIF congregation members to get to know Pastor David more personally within the coming week. Check back here or get more updates on the PIF App as it relates to these events.
Q: WHAT WILL PASTOR DAVID'S AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY BE?
Pastor David is the lead pastor of Promise International Fellowship, as well as in an Associate Pastor role within Promise Ministries. He will take charge of conducting the ongoing ministry of PIF, including it's week to week operations, preaching for PIF's corporate worship services, and providing guidance to the PIF staff and leadership. Along with leading PIF, his role as Associate Pastor to the larger Promise Ministries family will enable him to support other areas of the church.
Q: WILL ANY CHANGES IN THE LIFE OF THE CHURCH TAKE PLACE DURING THIS TRANSITION?
Transitions bring exciting changes as well as meaningful challenges. At this time, many of our ministries will continue to operate as they normally do. We are confident that Pastor David will prayerfully discern God's ongoing vision for PIF, and through his leadership, our church life will continue to evolve to reflect what God ultimately wants for us, and we know that what God wants is always what's best!
Q: WHAT ROLE WILL PASTOR PETE RICHARDSON HAVE DURING THIS TRANSITION?
We are so grateful for the work that Pastor Pete and his wife, Sister Donna, have invested into PIF during the interim period. Pastor Pete will now step into the role of Advisor and mentor to Pastor David. Pastor Pete may also minister in areas of PIF that Pastor David may ask him to, continuing to build relationships and cultivating connections. Pastor Pete will continue to serve the members of PIF with God's love and with his heart for the ministry.
Q: I CALL PIF MY HOME. WHAT CAN I DO TO SUPPORT THIS NEW SEASON OF LEADERSHIP?
Pray immediately! Nothing we do is accomplished the way it is without prayer. Our new pastor and his family need our prayers as they come into our family. Now is also the best time to consider volunteering in PIF with a Ministry Team or stepping in as a Connect Group leader. Get involved! God is doing a new thing! Fill out the form on our Contact page and tell us how you want to get involved.
Q: WHO SHOULD I SPEAK TO IF I HAVE ANY QUESTIONS?
Pastor Pete will continue to make himself available for any questions you may have about this transition. Fill out the form on our Contact page and tell us what's on your mind.
